Elaine Erickson

EXPERIENCE

Elaine Erickson graduated from Clarke University in 2012 with a major in special education and a minor in music performance (clarinet) under the tutelage of David Resnick. Ms. Erickson is a fine performer, touring with the Clarke Clarinet Quartet, the Clarke Wind Quintet, and playing 1st chair in the Clarke Wind Ensemble all four years. 

As a veteran teacher in the Dubuque Community Schools, Ms. Erickson brings a wealth of instructional experience and a reputation for being warm, accessible, and enthusiastic. She continues to play in local music ensembles and volunteers in the community.

Nitshelle Kerstein

Experience

Nitshelle Kerstein graduated in 2019 from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in music education. She studied flute under Madalyn Mackey; principal flautist of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Kerstein performed on the saxophone in the Clarke University Jazz Band, under the direction of David Resnick. She plans to continue her studies and earn a master’s degree in music education.

Marcia Martin

EXPERIENCE

Marcia Martin, instructor of bassoon at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, earned her BM in bassoon performance from the University of Iowa.  Continuing her education at the Eastman School of Music, she earned an MM in Bassoon Performance and Literature and a Performer’s Certificate.  Previously, she was instructor of bassoon at the State University of New York at Geneseo.  Currently, Marcia teaches bassoon the University of Dubuque as well as the University of Wisconsin – Platteville.

Marcia holds the 2nd bassoon position with the Waterloo – Cedar Falls Symphony. She performs regularly with Julien Wind Ensemble and enjoys being a regular substitute with ensembles such as the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, and the Quad City Symphony. Formerly, she was the 2nd bassoonist of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, NY.  She was also a regular substitute with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.  Marcia has participated in summer music festivals such as the National Repertory Orchestra, the Round Top Festival Institute, and the American Russian Young Artists’ Orchestra (World Tour), the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and the Oberlin Conservatory’s Baroque Performance Institute.

As a chamber musician, Marcia is currently a member of the Dubuque Chamber Players and the Julien Chamber Winds.  She has frequently been a guest artist at the University of Tennessee at Martin Chamber Music Festival.  Marcia has also been a member of chamber ensembles such as the Alexandrian Woodwind Quintet (Russell Award Winner of the 1998 Coleman Chamber Music Competition), the American Russian Young Artist Chamber Ensemble, and the SUNY Geneseo Faculty Woodwind Quintet.

JILL SCHEIRER

EXPERIENCE

Jill Scheirer graduated from Concordia College in Minnesota with a B.A. in Music Education with an emphasis in clarinet performance. She was employed as a music teacher in the Dubuque Community Schools as a PK-5 music and choir teacher. Ms. Scheirer has also taught in the Bismarck, ND, and Kulm, ND, public schools. She is widely known as a dedicated musician with a wide variety of music and leadership experiences.
